Kickstart – Memberships & Merchandise Assistant

JOB SUMMARY
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing concert and festival promoter, working closely with the company directors and other members of the team. The role is a mixture of office based at the Heavy Pop office (RG1 4QU) with some homeworking possible after the initial training period, as well as attendance at some evening gigs and festivals. 

The role will be varied and rewarding, with the main aim to increase the numbers of customers on our membership scheme and helping to manage the scheme, including communication with customers and partner businesses; as well as developing our merchandise range, promotions and sales. In addition, the candidate will obtain experience of the structure of the music business/live music business and have the chance to work on our concerts and festivals. 

Responsibilities would include: 

Membership Scheme: 
*Liaising with existing customers – dealing with queries, writing regular newsletters, running competitions etc 

*Signing up new members – running campaigns and promotions (online ads, mail outs, flyer campaigns) 

*Working with freelance designers and our in-house marketing team to promote the scheme and partner businesses. 

*Sourcing new independent partner businesses to be part of the scheme (e.g. local bars, restaurants, shops, hotels etc) 

*For new members; writing/sending welcome letters, assigning promotional codes, ordering new membership cards, keeping internal records up to date. 

*Attending our live gigs and festivals to market the scheme to the audience. 

*Working to agreed targets 

Merchandise Range: 
*Dealing with customer enquiries and order fulfilment. 

*Setting up marketing promotions (website, mailing list, social media ads, print flyers etc) 

*Working with designers/photographers to produce new content to market the merchandise 

*Recording sales to monitor stock levels 

*Working on new product ranges from concept, design, through to ordering the stock. 

*Attending our live gigs and festivals to market the merchandise to the audience 

Flexible weekly working, including which days of the week worked. Working 25 hours per week. 
This role is primarily office based work. Allowance for some home working. Some work around our festival & evening gigs (Reading town centre)

SKILLS NEEDED
The ideal candidate will be:


*Motivated and driven 

*Confident, outgoing and comfortable in meeting new people and pitching and selling 

*Ability to work to targets 

*Have good attention to detail 

*Ability to prioritise workload and tasks 

*Proficient IT skills – Word, Excel, cloud based systems including Dropbox, mailing list platforms e.g. Mailchimp, and social media 

*Good verbal and written communication skills

WORKING HOURS
Monday to Thursday 10am to 5.15pm (includes a 1hr lunch break) Some evening gig/weekend festival work.

HOURLY RATE
National Minimum Wage

ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
The candidate will be working closely with the directors and other team members including a weekly team planning meeting. A task list tool will help manage tasks & workloads. A weekly timesheet record will be completed, and reviewed. Staff working days /working locations are planned a week in advance for the following week. 

The role will entail a variety of communication means including phone, email, in-person; both business to business and business to consumer. As a small team, we are offering the opportunity to work closely together on projects and tasks. 

The live music business itself is not a regulated industry and no qualifications are required to operate within it. As such, we will not be offering certified qualifications as part of the roles. The focus will be on building practical work experience and developing business skills. We will also be working alongside New Directions College in Reading with respect to wider employability support where the candidate will undertake L1 Award in Employability or similar course. 

The candidate will pick up practical skills and experience, which will be relevant for future office-based, events, and sales based work in a wide variety of sectors. This will include: 

• Developing ability to work as part of a team. 

• Gaining confidence communicating via email, by phone, and in person; both externally and internally. 

• Working to deadlines and prioritising tasks. 

• Gaining experience of systems and software platforms. 

• Building confidence to ask relevant questions and to work inquisitively.
